Mom's Words of Wisdom - Nestlé® Pure Life® #sponsored

Thanks to Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water for sponsoring this post!
As a child, I raced down my parent's sidewalk on my bike known as Columbia Pink Lady. I loved that bike with the cool banana seat with flowers on it, the bright fuchsia body and the colorful streamers on the handle bars. The one problem with it: it didn't have training wheels.

Toppling onto the grass or skidding across the sidewalk became a daily ritual. At one point I had had enough and threw my bike on the ground. That was it! I was seriously never going to ride this thing again because "I couldn't do it!"

Well my mother wasn't going to stand for that!. She got up out of her chair with a stern voice and said, "Denise Michelle!" (Oh, don't you love it when parents throw in your middle name? That meant nothing but trouble!) "You get right back up on the bike and try, try again." She stood over me time after time and made me get back up and try again until I was sailing all over the neighborhood.

Her wise words served me well throughout my young life. Like when I was in high school and not doing very well in Geometry. We hired a tutor and I kept pushing and pushing until I successfully passed the class.

When I landed a job that made me very unhappy she encouraged me to keep looking for something new until I did. And I am thankful for that! That job led me to the path of higher education - a true love of mine.

Of course there was also the "learn how to drive a stick shift" era. I really and truly didn't think I could do it but I kept her mantra, "try, try again" in the back of my head. Several parking lots later and a ton of patience on my husband's part, I was finally able to drive our Corvette that is stick shift. Oh please, oh please don't tell anyone that I was going so slow that the computer lost track of the tire pressure and indicated a problem - meaning I actually put the tire to sleep! It was a small feat but I was determined to do it and thanks to mom instilling persistence in me, I did!

I am even applying the "try, try again" principle to my current goals as I try to lose a few pounds. If I get on the scale only to realize I didn't lose any weight that week I remind myself that I can "try, try again" this week.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with exercise, healthy foods and plenty of water is key.  I am aim for eight glasses a day and have cut soda out of my diet (except for an occasional Dr. Pepper every three months or so! Not too shabby since at one point in my life I had about three a day!)

I really enjoy drinking water but if you find it a little boring you can always pour yourself a bottle of  Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water and add fresh fruit like oranges, lemons, raspberries or even a mixture of fruits. If fruit isn't your thing consider something like fresh mint or cucumbers for a refreshing drink.

  16. I wanted the banana seat bike and got a brand new boys Huffy (thanks to my loving and wonderful grandfather who didn't know better). I never said a word about not getting the banana seat bike, and I had hours of enjoyment on the Huffy. ;)

Water is my absolute favorite drink!
